Library Circulation Policies
Elementary: Elementary students may check out books during their scheduled library periods or at other times during specified library operating hours with permission of their teacher. Elementary students check out one book per student unless they have special permission for more than one during projects. Books are checked out for a one- week period and may be renewed twice. Elementary students may check out only elementary materials (marked with a red dot on the spine).
Secondary: Secondary students may check out books during library operating hours with the permission of their teacher and approval of the librarian. They may also check out books during teacher-scheduled library visits. It is the students’ responsibility to keep up with the due date (stamped on the inside back cover of the book) so the material is not turned in late. Secondary students may check out three books per student. Books are checked out for a two-week period and may be renewed twice.
All Reference Material must stay in the elementary and secondary library at all times.
Overdue Materials: Fines are not charged for overdue books. Elementary and secondary overdue notices are sent to families at the end of each 9-weeks grading period before grades are sent out. Secondary students’ grades are held until their library books are either returned or renewed.
Student Use of Computers
Elementary: Elementary students in grades 3 – 6 are allowed to use the computers located in the elementary library with supervision for card catalog purposes only.
Secondary: Secondary students are allowed to use computers located in the secondary library or the elementary library (with permission of the librarian) for Providence Academy research purposes only. No games or email are permitted, including during after-school hours. Infraction of this rule will result in loss of computer privileges for the semester.
