Four Providence Academy students have been named 2020-2021 Ned McWherter Scholars. The named recipients are Timothy Boccarossa, son of Drs. Gerry and Susan Boccarossa of Blountville, TN; Conor Orr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg and Krista Orr of Gray, TN; Chloe Sams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug and Stacia Sams of Johnson City, TN; and Caleb Zepeda, son of Dr. and Mrs. Fernando and Ferrissa Zepeda of Johnson City, TN. This is the fourth year in a row at least one Providence student has been selected to receive this scholarship.

“All four honorees are exceptional students and well-rounded people, and we’re so proud of their accomplishments.” PA Head of School, Ben Holland said. “More than ever we’re thankful for the opportunity to celebrate their hard work and bright futures!”

The Ned McWherter Scholars Program is intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and a 29 or above on the ACT. The program awards each student $6,000 per academic year, with $3,000 from the state of Tennessee and $3,000 from the college or university the student attends. This year the state awarded only 153 scholarships statewide.
