Community Service Projects
Students in grades 9 – 12 adopt as a class a local ministry as their “class ministry.” The class then works with that community organization during their entire tenure as secondary students. Focusing on one organization also helps the students see the completion of their hands-on activity in the community. Current community organizations include Coalition for Kids (Class of 2013), East Tennessee Christian Home (girls Class of 2012), Good Samaritan Ministries (Class of 2011 and boys Class of 2012), Rise Up (Class of 2014), and Small Miracles (Class of 2013).
Elementary students combine service projects with raise awareness and items for local charities such as blankets for area homeless shelters, supplies for Inter Faith Hospitality Network, diapers for Crisis Pregnancy Centers, shoes for children in Central America.
In October we have a school-wide food drive, partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank. Each elementary class is teamed with a secondary class to see who can collect the most food for the most points. Each item is given a point value. The team with the most total points wins! For the past three years, PA has won Division C (small schools) with most food collected in competition with other local schools.
