Providence Academy Alumni Updates for March and April

April Alumni Updates

 
Megan Gilchrist (’04) was named to East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy Dean’s List for Fall 2013.
 
Brad Boswell (’07) is finishing his Master of Theological Studies at Boston College with an anticipated graduation date of May 19.  He and his wife, Erin, and daughter, Claire, are excited to be moving back southward this fall so Brad can begin work on a Ph.D. in religion at Duke University with a focus in Early Christianity.
 
Sarah Blackburn (’08) received her B.A. in Psychology from Samford University in 2012, and she has now entered the Charlotte School of Law.  This summer Sarah will be interning with Rick Bearfield and Associates in Johnson City.
 
Abigail Lepsch (’08) Abigail Lepsch recently finished teaching math in Charleston, South Carolina, with Teach for America, which places college graduates in high-need classrooms for a two-year commitment.  This August Abigail will be moving to Memphis to start medical school at the University of Tennessee.  When asked what she had learned from her time teaching in Charleston, Abigail noted, “There are many things I learned about myself and ways I have grown spiritually as a teacher in an urban school.  To hit the highlights, I cling more tightly to relationship with Christ through each new day in a challenging work environment.  I have learned to look at work humbly, that my success is not final and failure is not fatal.  Every good thing is an undeserved blessing.  I have learned that excellence is the accumulation of thousands of small things.  Through leadership opportunities, I have learned that organizations are more dynamic and effective when I lead from the belief that everyone's voice is important.  I am really grateful for the opportunities I have had to grow through Teach for America. I understand the relationship between inequality, opportunity and education system much better.”
 
Danielle Oglesby Thurber (’08) and her husband moved to Greenville, SC, bought a house, and had a baby!
 
Daniel Rose (’08) graduated from ETSU with a degree in chemistry in 2012.  He is currently working toward a PharmD degree from ETSU.  He is also the Media Director at his church.
 
Annie Stoltzfus (’10) has been accepted into Moody Bible Institute’s Masters program.  She will be working toward a Master’s of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies.
 
Corey Smith (’11), a Milligan College student,is planning to major in Biology on the pre-med track and is a member of the mountain biking team.  Corey went to Haiti on a medical mission trip in 2012 and was selected to participate in the ETSU Medical Horizon program in 2013.  He is a member of the Milligan College Society of Scientific Christian Scholars and the National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi.  Corey received academic and mountain biking scholarships from Milligan College and was honored with a scholarship from the Order of the Eastern Star for the fall 2013 and 2014 school years.
 
Christopher Boccarossa (’12) will be working for General Cable of Jackson, Tennessee, as Engineering Co-op for the summer of 2014.  He is a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Union University and is also a youth leader for Jackson Young Life.
 
Jonathan Toye (’13) was listed onthe University of Tennessee – Knoxville Fall 2013 Semester Dean’s List.  He was also selected by the faculty in the University of Tennessee’s Journalism and Electronic Media Department to receive the Knoxville News Sentinel Scholarship in Journalism based on "outstanding scholarship and professional promise."  He is a sports writer for UT's Daily Beacon and WUTK's sports talk radio show, “Rock Solid Sports.”  In addition, Jonathan was selected to be a student DJ on WUTK and "Rock Solid Sports.”
