Trinity Huhn Selected National Merit Finalist
Over 1.5 million students nation-wide entered the 2012 National Merit Program by taking the PSAT. Of these, 34,000 became Commended Students; 16,000 became Semi-Finalists; and 15,000 became Finalists. Also, Hannah Huffines was selected Commended Student. Our congratulations go to Trinity and to Hannah!

Hello Dolly Performances Announced for March 2 and March 3!
The Providence Academy Fine Arts Department would like to invite you to a musical adventure for all ages, full of music, dancing, and romance. By the end of the show, we will have you dancing and singing along with us. So, come and join us for our production of Hello Dolly on March 2 at 7pm and March 3 at 2pm and 7 pm. DAR Essay Contest Winners Announced
Emily Young- 5th grade, Clara Reynolds-6th grade, and Millicent Runnels-7th grade received word this week that their essays were winners in the Ann Robertson Chapter DAR essay contest. The assigned topic for the essays was “Young America Takes a Stand: The War of 1812.” The students have been invited to the Feb. 27 meeting of DAR at the Johnson City Public Library to read their essays. Congratulations to the winners!

Millicent Runnels, 7th grade, is new Spelling Bee champ!
Runner-up is Emma Harrod, 8th grade. Millicent will represent PA at the district spelling bee. Congratulations to both girls and all the participants!!

Congratulations to Geography Bee winner Emily Young!
Emily is in the fifth grade, and Lydia Basham (fourth grade) is runner up. Emily will take a written test to qualify for the state bee; the state winner has the opportunity to go to Washington, DC, for the National Bee. First place prize is a $25,000 college scholarship, $500 cash, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

PA’s 2011-2012 National Honor Society Members Inducted
The 2011-2012 National Honor Society induction took place Wednesday, November 30. Seniors inducted into the Honor society include Andrew Hollandsworth, Landon McMurray and John Steadman. Juniors Whitney Baxter, Abigail Eldridge, Mary Kate Ferguson, Ruth Freemon, Jonathan Hecht, Jenna Grace Hill, James Hollowell, Regan Huisman, Emma Pendola, Sofia Pinzon, Jonathan Prieto, Natalie Smith, Elizabeth Stillwell, Jonathan Toye, Blake Tyree, Kaitlyn Webb, Amaris White and Alexandra Whitman were also inducted. These new members join current members Christopher Boccarossa, Faith Cambron, Chace Graham, Trinity Huhn, Benjamin Jewett, Andrew Kanel, Christina McKinney, Nathan Oglesby, Whitney Palmeter, Maddie Reynolds, and Emily Tumlin.

Congratulations to PA’s Poetry Out Loud Winners!
First place award goes to Averie Blackmore and first runner-up to Ariel Huhn. Both girls did a fabulous job with their oral interpretations. Averie (and Ariel, if for some reason Averie can’t attend) will next compete in the regional competition Friday, February 17, 2012, at Hardin Academy in Knoxville. State finals are scheduled for March 31, 2012, and the national Poetry Out Loud competition is May 13-15, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
