Introduction:
College is a two-way street. Not only do colleges look at you as a prospective student, but you also should look at colleges to determine what’s important to you. So let’s start with you.
What you look for:
- In-state or out
- Large, medium, or small
- Public or private
- Urban or rural setting
- Variety of majors to choose from
- Extra curricular activities
- Athletics
- Scholarships and grants available
- Visit more than one college
- Compare colleges
- Cost of attendance
Remember selecting the right college is critical because you will spend four years of your life there.
Now, what do colleges look for:
- Challenging course schedule
- Grade point average
- ACT/SAT scores
- Class rank
- Application essay
- Letters of recommendation
- Extracurricular and community involvement
Every college admissions office has its own formula for determining the importance of each of these factors.
Choosing the right college for you is a matter of looking, searching, and then meeting required deadlines.
